The future of the camera category.

Fifteen select media were packed into a Qantas plane to fly over to Dubbo, approximately 400km north-west of Sydney, NSW for a hands-on experience of the latest Lumix G cameras from Panasonic through an up, close and personal tour of Taronga Zoo. The camera additions have been designed to fulfil demand within the growing 4K and high resolution trend, according to the company’s director, Richard Tassone.

“Higher resolution video is a growing trend in the camera market as the number of 4K UHD televisions in the Australian market increases. Panasonic now offers 4K video recording in more than half of its current range of compact and mirrorless cameras. This includes the new TZ80 which is Panasonic’s most affordable product with 4K, starting at $599 RRP,” Tassone (pictured below) told Appliance Retailer.

“Another trend in the compact camera market is the move towards larger one inch sensors. More and more customers are appreciating the premium image quality, shallow depth of field and low light performance that this sensor can deliver. With the release of the TZ110, Panasonic is the first to offer a 10x optical zoom combined with a one inch sensor all within a stylish and pocketable form factor,” he said.

“Both models include a high resolution viewfinder for easy framing in bright sunny conditions, a touchscreen LCD for easy control of all features plus 4K video recording and Panasonic’s innovative 4K photo modes,” Tassone added.

Panasonic’s 4K Photo mode incorporates 4K pre-burst mode which shoots 30 frames per second before and after the shutter is released, to capture the decisive moment with total precision.

Once users capture an array of photos and video, the cameras make it fast and simple to share with friends and family. Using Wi-Fi and the Panasonic Image App, it is easy to connect to a smartphone or tablet, allowing users to post to social media almost as soon as images have been recorded.

The Lumix DMC-TZ110 and Lumix DMC-TZ80 will be available in March from selected photographic specialists and consumer electronics retailers.

The Leica DG VARIO-ELMAR 100-400mm F4.0-6.3 ASPH is another addition to the Lumix G range of compact interchangeable lenses in a highly durable, compact and lightweight body.

Panasonic senior product manager, Doug Campbell explained, “As the only 800mm equivalent lenses in the Micro Four Thirds line-up, this is the model that enthusiast sports and wildlife photographers have been looking for.”

The telephoto lens offers outstanding performance with fast Depth from Defocus, and Power O.I.S that works with Panasonic’s Dual I.S system. It is weather sealed and is significantly smaller, lighter and more cost effective than comparable SLR lenses.
