According to the reissued recall notice on the ACCC’s recalls website, “In rare circumstances moisture could build up around the handle area causing water to collect around the latch and buttons” and “this may cause an electric shock when the door handle is gripped or the buttons are pressed”.

Consumers are advised to stop using the appliance and turn the power supply off, and to contact Fisher & Paykel to organise a service representative to replace the affected part free of charge. Details can be registered by emailing specialist.team@fisherpaykel.com or by calling 1300 920 472 between 8am and 6pm (free of charge).

Speaking about the recall extension, Fisher & Paykel's general manager of supply chain management Matt Orr said it was a precaution to ensure customer safety.

“While the number of affected machines is small, the safety of our customers is paramount," he said. "We recommend that customers with one of these dishwashers switch off their appliance at the power supply and do not use it until a technician has fitted the replacement part.

“While the need to recall any product is disappointing, we stand by our products 100 per cent and in the event there is an issue we will put things right.

“We have extended the part replacement outreach to ensure all customers with one of these models are fully informed. While this fault is likely to impact only a very small number of these machines in the market we are committed to moving quickly to eliminate any potential risks.

“Our technicians will easily install this part without removing the dishwasher, but we apologise sincerely for any inconvenience or disruption this process may cause."
