Australia’s peak retail body, the Australian Retailers Association is gearing up to celebrate ‘First Responders Day’ on June 29, with retailers offering special deals to frontline workers.

The event, now in its fourth year, is a way of saying thanks to people from health professionals to emergency services personnel. Participating retailers include JB Hi-Fi, David Jones, Red Rooser, Macpac, T2 Tea, Best & Less, and H&M, among others.

In previous years, offers have ranged from 10 to 30% off in-store items. First responders simply need to bring a photo ID which shows their work identity or shop in their work uniform.

ARA CEO, Paul Zahra said it is vital to continue to thank first responders, who have steered us through a global pandemic and natural disasters in recent years.

“First responders are grappling with ‘perma-crisis’ environment and we owe an enormous debt of gratitude to our first responders for making that possible,” he said.

“First Responders Daywill remain a permanent fixture on Australia’s retail calendar. It’s our modest way showing our appreciation to those who sacrifice so much to keep us all safe and healthy. From healthcare providers to emergency services, they’re always there in times of crisis and sacrifice so much to maintain our way of life.”

Offers are available only to Australian-based first responders including medical and health workers, doctors, nurses and paramedics, as well as ambulance staff, police personnel, firefighters, defence and border force personnel, SES, lifesavers and quarantine workers.
