From 1-100: how The Good Guys grew up

The location was Essendon in Victoria and the year was 1952 when Ian Muir began retailing electrical appliances under the brand name Mighty Muir. By 1992 Muir owned 14 stores across Victoria and Queensland and on Wednesday September 29, 63 years later the company has opened the doors of its 100th Australian store in North Lakes, Queensland.

Macy’s and Best Buy seal deal

US retailing icon, Macy’s will soon begin to sell consumer electronics after sealing a partnership with CE giant Best Buy. The deal is aimed at firstly, attracting a new breed of shopper and second, retaining existing customers who are “gravitating” to things outside of the merchandise categories offered at Macy’s.

Success story: Dyson hits £1.4bn turnover

Dyson Ltd has reported turnover of £1.4bn with profit rising by 21%, despite the company being hit by a strong Pound which pulled it back to 13%. Research and Development investment was up 40% with growth driven by global demand, particularly Asia. There was also a strong performance from new technologies including bladeless fans, purifiers and humidifiers. Sales of Dyson patented cordless vacuum technology grew by 68% globally.

Gibson Innovations CEO steps down

After nine years of leading Gibson Innovations (formerly Philips’ Home Entertainment), Wiebo Vaartjes will step down from his role as CEO, effective immediately. He will continue in a transitional role as a consultant with the company through the end of the year, as Gibson Brands CEO Henry Juszkiewicz, assumes all responsibilities associated with the role on an interim basis.
