SYDNEY, NSW: As part of Samsung’s 2011 DI range, the Korean powerhouse has released the first compact digital camera with built-in Wi-Fi and DLNA, and a smartphone-inspired user interface.

The SH100 is being positioned by the company as a ‘smart camera’ that offers new forms of file transfer for users. The SH100 features Wi-Fi capability that allows users to automatically back up photos and movies onto a PC and share them via Facebook, YouTube or email.

It also features built-in DLNA that can be used to share content to a DLNA-capable television or even an Android-powered smartphone. With Samsung’s DLNA AllShare software, users can pair their phone with the SH100 and then use the phone to remotely control the camera.

“You can use your phone to view the shot you’re about to take in real time,” said a Samsung spokesperson. “If you’re not happy with it, you can zoom in and out on your phone to get the best picture, and then activate the shutter remotely when you’re ready to pose.

“This innovation means that the days of running between your camera and your subject, trying to line up the perfect group shot, are over – because you now have total control of your camera in the palm of your hand from wherever you are in the shot.”

Marketing Manager of DI and IT at Samsung, Sagar Dave, told Current.com.au that unlike traditional cameras, the SH100 is “a smart camera which thinks on its own”.

“This is a new wireless compact camera with a HD recording capability,” Dave said, “and with a 14.2 megapixel and 26mm wide angle lens the SH100 certainly will take good shots”. Throw in the three-inch LCD touch screen, with its smartphone-inspired swipe display and app-style icons, and nifty features like built-in camera filters, and you have a camera that is sure to appeal to the ever-connected Gen-Y market.

The Samsung SH100 has an RRP of $279.
