CAMPBELLTOWN: The outer-Sydney suburb’s first electrical superstore held its official opening since renovations over the weekend, attended by spokespeople and managers from BSR, reporters and the local radio station, WSFM.
The 2,000-square metre store joins Minchinbury, Ulladulla and Kiama as the fourth BSR superstore in NSW, with proprietors from each location attending the launch party on Friday night 16 February to view the premises.
According to Campbelltown BSR administration and sales manager, Michelle Lee, trading over the opening weekend was “very hectic, but very profitable.” Lee’s husband, Patrick Lee, along with Atalay Bayindir and Denis Conway are the proprietors of the store, and each comes from a Tandy electronics retailer background.
“Although we sell the usual whitegoods and browngoods, we’re actually specialising in accessories,” said Lee.
“Coming from a Tandy background, we have a good knowledge of cables and connections, and a really good customer service focus.”
The Campbelltown site, at 20 Blaxland Road, began renovations on 1 December last year, and began trading amid the redevelopment due to popular demand on 18 December.
“A few weeks in to the development, customers began ringing, turning up and knocking on the door. The builders didn’t know what to do so we set up a portion of the store with black curtains sectioning off the construction area, and bulk stacked the stock so we could trade,” said Lee.
“We didn’t want to disappoint anyone, what with the existing BSR catalogues and the Christmas season approaching, so from then on we more or less stayed open and worked around the builders.
“The customers wouldn’t let us close – they loved being a part of the renovation. When they’d come back, they’d be able to see how it was progressing. They loved it and it kept them coming back,” she said.
According to Lee, there are 10 permanent staff members with around eight on the floor depending on the day.
Lee anticipates a strong week of trading off the back of the publicity generating by the grand opening on the weekend.
