SYDNEY, NSW: Nespresso has taken the award for the most overall satisfied coffee machine customer, nailing every category (reliability, maintenance, design, ease of use, after sales service and good coffee) with the exception of price in the Canstar Blue customer satisfaction survey.

Sunbeam trumped every supplier for price, but revealed three out of five stars for design, ease of use, after sales service and good coffee.

The results of the Canstar Blue survey may be explained by features which frustrate consumers, including a lengthy cleaning process, the amount of time needed to make coffee, a large benchtop footprint, and issues with the frothing device.

De’Longhi was pipped at the post for second place by Saeco who scored top marks for making good coffee. Following behind closely was Sunbeam, Breville and finally Krups, who scored an average of three out of five stars in every category.

According to Steven Mickenbecker, Canstar Cannex’s head of research, the survey also revealed that 19 per cent of Australians spend over $1000 on a coffee machine and that baby boomers and South Australians could be a key target markets.

“The results show the baby boomer generation is most likely to drink six or more cups of coffee a day (18 per cent),” said Mickenbecker.

“South Australians were revealed as having the biggest caffeine habit, with 23 per cent of residents surveyed drinking six or more cups a day. This is more than double the number of Queenslanders in this category (11 per cent).”
