An investigation conducted by Choice has warned consumers to be wary of claims made by retailers such a ‘lowest price’, ‘best price’ or ‘price match’, finding that often these claims can actually work against the consumer by stopping them from shopping around.
A special taskforce has been formed to oversee the recall of Infinity brand electrical cables, after it was discovered that the “poor quality” plastic insulation coating failed electrical safety standards. The ACCC said the cable was possibly used in as many as 40,000 homes and businesses for electrical wiring jobs, including installing appliances.
The biggest causes for complaint from small businesses to the ACCC are accusations of misleading conduct and false representations, according to data from the consumer watchdog. These complaints are usually directed at competing small businesses, big businesses and sometimes suppliers.
