Suunto has released new upgrades to its flagship Suunto 7 smart sportswatch, enabling users to more easily manage activity data, and customise sport mode functionality for the first time.

The newest enhancements add to existing functionality within the Suunto 7 including heatmaps for less populated circuits and routes across 15 activities such as running, cycling, swimming and hiking, as well as Wear OS integration for Google Assistant and Google Fit.

The new 24/7 activity data improvements provide easy access to steps and calories through the Suunto mobile app and Suunto Today tile on the watch. The Suunto Today tile shows recovery time, as well as daily step and calorie targets, while HR data can now be accessed through the Google Fit tile.

New sport mode customisation allows users to create their own sport modes, in addition to the 70 pre-defined modes, and choose the information they want to see during exercise.

These latest additions automatically get updated on the watch when charging and connected to Wi-Fi. Alternatively, users can manually check to see if your watch has been updated by going to ‘Settings>>System>>About>>System update.’

Consumer spending on health and fitness-related goods and services is at a record high, according to a recent Commonwealth Bank Household Spending study, with Australians increasingly making the effort to stay fit and healthy during this period.

With Australians increasingly staying indoors, a recent AIA Australia Vitality COVID-19 report shows that members using a tech device to track their physical activity increased by 23% in April 2020 alone.

Suunto Australia and New Zealand head, Fraser Jones said when Suunto 7 first launched, there was an overwhelmingly warm reception from both dedicated fitness-lovers and everyday active Australians.

“Following the launch, we have listened to feedback from consumers around the world and worked hard to make it even better and easier to use, across both its smart functions and sports capabilities. With Australians looking closely at their health and overall wellbeing in these unprecedented times, we also believe the Suunto 7 can play an important role in keeping people focused and motivated, while providing a range of features that will also make their day-to-day easier right now, including contactless payments,” he said.
