Following news that Winning Appliances has appointed a new CEO from the United States furniture company La-Z-Boy, Current.com.au has spoken to the Texan import for the first time about his new role.
Set to officially begin in the job on 3 December 2012, the new Winning Appliances CEO, David Crane, is set to take over the position from John Winning, who will now oversee all the businesses in The Winning Group portfolio as group CEO.

Although Crane’s resume is stacked with recognisable names in furniture retail, including the La-Z-Boy brand and Australian retailer Natuzzi, he told Current.com.au that his industry experience was well suited to the whitegoods retail business.
“Like furniture, appliances are items that impact the design, feel and environment of a home or commercial space,” said Crane. “I have been speaking with customers around the world for 16 years and understand what drives their purchasing decisions, which transcends industries.
“I look forward to moving back to Australia with my wife and children. Even though the accents may be different, at the end of the day customers from all over the world want the same thing; a convenient and helpful shopping experience.
“When comparing the furniture industry with Australia’s appliances business you will find the market is quite similar – customers are looking for household appliances that represent a lifestyle. Both shopping experiences require expert advice and a commitment to customer satisfaction.
Crane was equally positive about joining the Winning team, which he said had a strong heritage in retail, thanks to more than 100 years in the industry.
“In my opinion it’s the people you work with that help deliver results, and there’s not a better team in the industry than the people at Winnings. I’m looking forward to sharing my experience in sales, management and manufacturing and learning and listening to the people at Winning Appliances who will have invaluable insights.
“I look forward to learning more about our customers to ensure all future business decisions reflect their needs resulting in a world-class retail experience.”
