SYDNEY: Panasonic followed up their new plasma range release with five new LCD models, offering full HD models down to 32-inch for the first time.

The LZD850 and LZD800 Series have 1080p screens and use 100Hz technology and Panasonic’s IPS Alpha technology for smoother motion. Both claim to have 10,000:1 contrast ratios.

The LZD800 and LZD850 series will be available in June, with the top TX-37LZD850A ‘Premium’ model selling for $2899. The standard 1080p TX-37LZD800A 37-inch model will sell for $2399, while the TX-32LZD800A 32-inch full HD model will retail for a recommended $1999. Panasonic’s two remaining 32-inch and 37-inch 720p models will arrive later, in July, with prices yet to be confirmed.

Panasonic Australia consumer electronics group director, Paul Reid, continued Panasonic’s party line on LCD versus plasma, saying, “We have always believed that the choice of TV technologies is application based – how and when you will be watching the TV. In a bright environment and in smaller screen sizes, LCD is the ideal solution. We believe the IPS Alpha panel offers leading LCD picture quality.”

Reid said Panasonic would continue to in LCD, saying construction of their new IPS Alpha LCD panel plant to begin in August 2008, with operations commencing in January 2010.

Current.com.au reported in February that Panasonic would commence OLED production at the plant once the LCD lines were installed, confirming a production start date of 2010 for the next-generation products.
