It may only be day one, but already there is a huge trend emerging at the IFA home appliance and consumer electronics trade show, with all the big brands showcasing a huge range of coloured appliances, with many more hues on offer than we are used to in Australia.
While we're no strangers to coloured small appliances in the Australian market, the shades on offer in local retailers are the more traditional reds, blues and the occasional non-primary colour. And beyond the flashes of colour seen on food prep appliances, toasters and kettles, as well as some larger ranges of products (Kenwood's kMix range springs to mind), the use of colour is fairly safe.

But walking around the stands at IFA today, there was a vast selection of new appliances that had been spruced up with some on-trend colour.
Special commendation goes to Bosch, a brand that chose to forego the more conventional pop colours for pastel tones in its smalls range, and had an eye-popping collection of fridges on display in almost every colour imaginable.
This writer was disappointed not to see pink in the mix — it would have been entertaining to watch sales staff talk about fuchsia fascias in Australia.
Bosch is challenging Smeg to have most different shades of refrigerator on the market.
Colour in garment care has been around for awhile, but this ode to the Green Hornet is a new one.
Not only do we see Bosch's new colourful mixer range, we also get a glimpse of the scope of Bosch's stand in its native Germany.
