Investigation into another Samsung machine.

Fire & Rescue NSW and Samsung are investigating a fire which destroyed the laundry of yet another home that housed a Samsung recalled washing machine.

According to a report in the Newcastle Herald, it appears that the machine was approved by a technician three years ago when the recall was activated and, ironically was just weeks from being replaced. The home owner, Alan Duckett of Anna Bay NSW is blaming the machine for the fire.

Duckett told smh.com.au, that his machine was checked and given the all clear by a technician in 2013 but, he received a phone call from Samsung about a fortnight ago offering to replace the machine and that a new model would arrive in about three weeks.

However Duckett has praised Samsung’s support after they learnt about the fire on social media.

“I can’t complain about Samsung, I can’t fault them,’’ Duckett told The Herald.

“They have been 100% about this. They know we don’t have hot water and have offered to put us up in other accommodation.’’

However, Duckett isn’t releasing the machine to Samsung yet, despite the company saying it is keen to conduct its own investigation.

”As the manufacturer of the washing machine, Samsung has a responsibility to investigate whether a fault in the machine caused the fire at Mr Duckett’s residence,’’ the spokeswoman told The Herald

“Samsung takes this responsibility very seriously. Mr Duckett indicated he did not wish to release the unit to Samsung at this time and accordingly we respected his wishes,” she added.

Samsung Electronics Australia is aware of a fire that occurred on May 5, 2016 at a residence in Anna Bay, NSW. Upon learning of the incident, Samsung immediately reached out to the resident, Mr. Duckett. We are currently co-operating with authorities and other relevant parties to investigate the matter.
