Smeg has added to its successful range of Victoria retro-style cookers with a selection of rangehoods designed to complement the same vintage aesthetic. Launched in Australia in January 2013, the Victoria Freestanding Cooker was designed and engineered in-house by Smeg’s design team and features a seven-burner gas hob (including teppanyaki plate) and a four-door design that conceals two ovens, a standalone electric grill and a storage drawer.

The original 110-centimetre model was launched in Black gloss enamel and a cream-coloured Panna finish, and was followed by a 90-centimetre cooker model to bring the same design into a smaller footprint.

Now Smeg has brought in a line-up of rangehoods, available in the same Black and Panna enamel finishes, in a traditional angled hood design (Black: KT110ABL; Panna: KT110AP) and a more contemporary slimline rangehood (Black: KSE110ABL; Panna: KSE110AP9). Both wallmount models feature twin 20-watt halogen lights, aluminium grease filters and variable speeds, as well as a maximum airflow of between 665 and 760 cubic metres per hour.

According to Jim Kalotheos, national marketing manager at Smeg Australia, the whole Victoria range has been “very” successful.

That’s why we introduced the 90-centimetre version of the original 110-centimetre Victoria [cooker] model. And while the aesthetic of this appliance is very deliberately vintage, we are finding customers are installing them in both retro designed kitchens and very contemporary kitchens.

The popularity of vintage or retro design is growing and we were being asked for a rangehood that worked well, aesthetically, with both the Victoria upright and the great range of FAB refrigerators and dishwashers Smeg has.

While the “vintage aesthetic is a growing trend across most home and lifestyle products” according to Kalotheos, it’s not a new fad for Smeg — the brand has been selling its popular FAB refrigerators for years which represent “an iconic design worldwide that is instantly recognised”.

But the old-school look is not paired with old mechanisms inside — Kalotheos said they offer the best in terms of modern construction and technology under the hood, so to speak.

These appliances have exactly the same attention to detail and quality and the very latest technology as all Smeg appliances. It is really all about the aesthetics. We are the only kitchen appliance brand that offers a choice in design and aesthetics.
