Kmart Australia has today recalled a health grill it was selling under its Homemaker brand. This is Kmart’s fifth electrical product recall of 2013, and the fourth under its Homemaker house brand.

The Homemaker Health Grill was sold nationally in Kmart stores between July 2010 and May 2013.  The model number is LW-281.

According to the Product Recalls notice, the grill has been recalled because “the internal insulation sleeve may move during use and expose electrical wiring”, which can result in a “severe electric shock”.

Consumers are instructed to immediately cease using this grill and to return it to any Kmart store for a full refund.

Kmart customer service can be contacted on 1800 124 125 (business days, 8am to 5pm).

Like its mass merchant rival Big W and its Abode brand, Kmart is quickly developing a reputation for product recalls for its Homemaker house brand. On 18 March 2013, Kmart recalled a blender (“choking hazard”) and a kettle (“serious burns”); then on 24 March 2013, Kmart recalled a Homemaker hot water dispenser (“serious burns or scalding”).

Another Kmart house brand, Jackaroo, has also been subject to a recall: on 21 May 2013, an electric air pump was withdrawn from sale (“severe electric shocks”).

Recalled: Kmart Homemaker Grill.
