Fisher & Paykel’s target market has suddenly increased by 1.2 billion people, with the launch of the cooking and kitchen appliance brand into India. This is the second mega market for the New Zealand company, with F&P having launched in China in 2010.

In a display of New Zealand pride, Fisher & Paykel tapped up former cricket star Stephen Fleming for the official gala launch in New Delhi. Cricket has often been called India’s unofficial religion, and a unifying force for the many different actual religious traditions present.

At the launch event, which was targeted at India’s booming middle class, F&P International Business COO Andrew Paykel said this new frontier was first identified two years ago.

“Fisher & Paykel believes in the philosophy of human-centred, innovation design,” Paykel said. “This combined with India’s willingness to embrace new ideas and improve life indicates a strong future for our brand.

“We had been investigating an India entry strategy over the past two years and scoping the opportunities and sales channels to get an in-depth understanding of our target market along with products our new customer’s desire

“What we found is a consumer-savvy population that prefers new generation appliances and the kind of genuine innovation that is found in Fisher & Paykel’s appliances.”
