SYDNEY, NSW: Sony and Sonos have today jointly launched a new subscription streaming internet radio station (of sorts). All new and existing Sonos customers get a free 30-day trial of the service, which will cost $12.99 per month.
Sounding more like a qualification from Australia’s premier university, the new Anubis.fm service gives listeners access to more than 2 million songs, including 10 by seminal 1980s Manchester band The Smiths.
Sonos currently has its ZonePlayer Z5 in the marketplace, which is highly customisable and somewhat unique internet radio sound system. Anubis.fm is intended to compliment Sonos’ existing cache of 100,000 internet radio stations. You can read more about the Zone Player Z5 here.
In addition to Sony Music, participating labels include Universal, EMI and Warner.
“Our goal at Sonos is to provide music lovers with access to all the music on the planet,” said Sonos CEO John MacFarlane. “By adding popular music services to Sonos, like Anubis.fm, we can continue to give our customers the ability to discover and enjoy unlimited music possibilities in any or every room.”
