Apple is expected to reveal the iPad 2 at a press conference in California on 2 March 2011 (3 March in Australia).

This revelation comes as handpicked invitees receive their email asking them to join Mr Jobs (health permitting) and Co for a launch event at Apple’s spiritual pagoda, the Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts in San Francisco.

Apple enjoyed tremendous success with its original iPad, due in part to it being the first to market in what is soon to be a totally saturated category. The new iPad 2 will test whether this popular was due to the product itself or to the exclusivity, as it will be going head to head with new tablets from Samsung, HTC, LG and Motorola. This last company will be releasing the first Android Honeycomb tablet, the Xoom, in the US tonight (Australian time).

Suffice to say Current.com.au did not receive an invite: we’re a touch too balanced in our Apple reporting to be granted such largesse.
