SYDNEY, NSW: Leading internet security provider AVG has identified small businesses as the second most vulnerable target of online threats for 2011. Mobile Devices were ranked at #1.
Also featuring in the top five threat targets for the year were Social Search (#3), Applications or Apps (#4) and the Cloud (#5).
The threat to small businesses is largely due to these companies not properly protecting themselves, according to an AVG spokesperson.
“While a growing number of cyber criminals are specifically targeting small businesses, 85 percent of small businesses refuse to see the danger at all,” said. the spokesperson.
“This does not bode well for the internet community at large as small business owners often do not have proper security policies and enforcement measures that can educate workers how to be safe online and not act in a way that puts the company network at risk.”
The most at risk are mobile devices, with smartphones and tablet devices increasingly becoming attractive sources of usable information for identity thieves, hackers and nefarious web users.
