SYDNEY, NSW: Pioneer is pumping up its DJ headphone offering to 24 models while it looks into new retail avenues for the headphones.

The HDJ-500 (RRP $149) will be released in November in black while a red and white version will be released in January, alongside an updated new release of the HDJ-1000 (RRP $269).

An iPod friendly HDJ-500 model called the HDJ-500iK (RRP $179) will also be available in January.

According to a statement from Pioneer, while both headphones will be sold nationally through authorised Pioneer DJ retailers, “the company is currently exploring other retail avenues for the HDJ-500".

Changes to the HDJ-1000 include a thicker diaphragm (38 micrometers) and longer voice coil (1.5 millimetres) for the playback of low and heavy sound and the protection resistance value in the mono/stereo has been halved for the easier hearing of mid-range sounds.
