SYDNEY, NSW: Despite it being in receivership and at the brink of extinction, the Online Retail Industry Awards have somehow contrived to nominate Clive Peeters for three awards at its inaugural ceremony.

In the release for nominations announcement, the chair of judging panel, Deloitte director of retail Andy Powell curiously said these awards reflect excellence in the retail industry, and that other companies should seek to emulate their performances.

“These awards allow us to establish a standard of excellence baseline against which developments in each of the category areas can be assessed at industry level going forward,” said Powell. “Put simply, the winners in each category will exemplify what others need to achieve to stay competitive, which will drive the advancement of the industry.”

Clive Peeters, which is nominated for Best Multichannel Retailer, Best New Online Retailer and Best Customer Experience, was placed in administration on 19 May 2010. This came after poor trading results were announced to the ASX, largely influenced by the theft of $20 million by an employee and negative trading conditions for big ticket retailers.
