Breville helps make the prefect cup of tea

The home espresso machine market is a category that has seen a huge increase in consumer demand. Breville believes that this success will also transition over to the tea maker category, as consumers strive to find the perfect cup of tea.

Breville recently announced the launch of its new BTM800 Automatic Tea maker and Kettle. Eddie Su, Breville product designer, believes this is a world first solution for brewing tea.

“Without a thermometer, a stop watch, and a lot of messing around, there was no easy way to unlock tea’s perfect taste,” said Su.

“Pouring freshly boiled water onto delicate tea leaves, such as green, oolong and white varieties, can scald the leaves and result in a bitter taste.  Equally, brewing the tea for too long or too short can result in an unpleasant or tasteless cup.  With this in mind, we set about designing a kettle that could also brew the perfect cup of tea.”

According to David Gubbin, Breville brand director Australasia, tea makers will mimic the success of the espresso machine.

“The home espresso market has been well catered for in recent years. Customers have been willing to invest significantly in espresso machines to create the perfect home coffee experience. Following this trend, we believe the significant number of tea drinkers in Australia are willing to spend a little extra to enjoy tea the way it is meant to be consumed,” said Gubbin.

“The popularity of speciality tea retailers such as T2 is testament to this. Why purchase the best tea products only to spoil the experience by brewing for too long or scalding the leaves with water that is too hot?”

The BTM800 will be available in mid-April for an RRP of $299.95. Some of its key features include a lower and lift basket for optimal infusion, five preset brew temperatures, LCD screen, 1.5-litre capacity and an auto-start function.
