AVG recently announced the release of its Rescue CD, which can recover computers that cannot boot or are infected with a virus. Previously only available for its business customers, AVG has made this product free all consumers.

Traditionally known for its range of anti-virus and internet security software, AVG is now offering consumers a complete range of protection solutions.

The AVG Rescue CD, which is already included in AVG’s business packages, is used primarily to recover computers that are unable to boot or are infected in a way that will not allow normal operation.

“The AVG Rescue CD has been a must-have toolkit of essential utilities for system administrators and other IT professionals for many years,” said Lloyd Borrett, marketing manager for AVG (AU/NZ). “It’s fantastic that it’s now freely available for anyone to download and use.”

The emergency boot-up CD features all the essential tools consumers need to recover their PC, including a comprehensive administration toolkit and system recovery from virus and spyware attacks.

The program is suitable for recovering Windows-based operating systems and it has the ability to perform a clean boot straight from the CD or USB stick.

The AVG Rescue CD can be downloaded for free to a CD or USB stick from www.avg.com.au/products/avg-rescue-cd.

Once the software has been installed, it will automatically mount all hard drives of the computer and scan them for malware and viruses. The Rescue CD will then automatically restore a safe network connection to the computer.

A variety of features are also included on the AVG Rescue CD for more advanced users. These include a Windows Registry editor, a TestDisk utility for recovering deleted files and lost partitions, a file browser for navigating folders, and a Ping tool for basic diagnostics.
