MELBOURNE, VIC: Miele Australia has reported a strong finish to 2009, and a good year overall, with record sales registered during the calendar year.

The company reported a 20 per cent increase in December sales year-on-year, which pushed its annual results up 6 per cent compared to 2008.

“Domestic appliances continued to contribute the lion’s share of the company’s turnover, with all product categories exceeding last year’s sales,” reported Miele.

“Miele’s professional and service divisions contributed to the positive overall result with both of them achieving healthy double-digit growth compared to the previous year.”

Managing director Michael Jeanes said 2009 had been like a rollercoaster ride, with the first months of the year influenced by the economic uncertainty emanating from the Global Financial Crisis. Jeanes said Miele’s recognisable brand was decisive when consumers were making purchasing decisions.

Despite 2009’s record results, Jeanes is predicting 2010 will see more improvement, with the ambitious MD expecting “far more positive” results.

“New product developments, most notably in the areas of cooking appliances and refrigeration products, combined with strong advertising and promotional activity have ensured that Miele domestic appliances remained top of mind and first choice for a steadily increasing number of customers.”
