SYDNEY: Tributes to the late Ian Muir, founder of The Good Guys electrical retail chain in Australia, talk of the respect and admiration people in the industry felt towards him.

Our thoughts are with Andrew and the entire Muir family at such a sad time. Mr Muir and My father Ken had a healthy respect and admiration for each other. Both men were very set in their ways, but were always mindful of other people’ input.
We send our deepest sympathy to all.
Kind regards
Lionel and Yenda Lee, and the entire Bing Lee team

Joan and Andrew,
We were very shocked to hear of Ian’s passing.
Great friend, great memories. Plane trip up to the Narta meeting on the Gold Coast. Dinner at The Lobster Pot where Ian got ‘square’ with Brian Girdlrestone (Joan will remember). Our get together in Washington, staying at the Washington Hotel. The girls went shopping in Georgetown and the guys to the Smithsonian Institute. Joan, remember the shopping bag with the ‘spilt’ drink?
Those shared memories like ours will last forever.
Kindest thoughts from Warwick and Cynthia Richardson

I remember Ian Muir very well and fondly and I pass on my condolences to the family. Ian was a tough but fair man to deal with and in my days with AWA and Mitsubishi Electric we had many business ‘discussions’ but always with good outcomes and good humour for all concerned. He was proud of the achievements of Andrew and I particularly would like to express my sympathy to Andrew at this time.
Kind Regards,
Richard Dawson

Sorry to hear about Ian’s passing. He was a fine man with genuine values with traditional business sense — a solid handshake and the deal was done.
My sympathies to all his family
