Telstra executive director, wireless engineering and operations, Mike Wright, today unveiled what he claims is the world’s fastest broadband modem. Wright launched the new modem at Telstra’s Investor Day, saying trials of the new 21Mbps unit will begin in December.

"This is truly game-changing," said Wright. "The new technology will unlock opportunities for many of our customers by bridging the gap between wired and wireless broadband connectivity.”

Telstra today announced the promotion of John McInerney to chief information officer and group managing director. McInerney had previously worked in IT transformation for three years.

McInerney is taking over from Tom Lamming, the senior vice president for transformation, who is retaining oversight for this division. McInerney will report to Lamming, who will in turn report to chief operations officer Greg Winn.

"John McInerney is an immensely capable executive who has been integrally involved throughout Telstra’s Transformation program,” said Telstra CEO Sol Trujillo. “He has led many of the world-leading IT changes we have made at Telstra and his promotion is another sign of the success Telstra has had developing great leaders within the organisation."
