Intel has today launched its Centrino 2 Processor Technology, with the focus on wireless and mobile developments. At a modest launch at Walsh Bay in Sydney, Intel also outlined its perceived future of the notebook computer, which they expect to exceed desktops in sales by 2011.

Talking about processor technology developments since the original Centrino is Intel corporate vice president and general manager (mobile platforms group), Mooly Eden.

“When we first introduced Intel Centrino back in 2003, there were very few Wi-Fi hotspots…and social media didn’t really exist, ‘thin and light’ only referred to weight goals and desktop PCs outsold notebooks by a very wide margin.

“Today, notebooks outsell desktops in the US, and we’re paving the way to HD entertainment,…online gaming, faster broadband wireless speeds and an easier and more secure way for businesses to manage, update and repair their notebook fleets,” said Eden.

Talking about the mobile aspects of Centrino 2 is Intel Australian and New Zealand general manager, Philip Cronin.

“The local market is demanding a better mobile computing experience and Intel Centrino 2 processor technology delivers this.  Whether it’s displaying HD multimedia more vividly, connecting via wireless faster or strengthening battery performance, with Intel Centrino 2 processor technology our OEM, reseller and retail partners are ready to help their customers realise this higher quality experience,” said Cronin.

Intel lists the following as the key factors in delivering on their commitment to improved mobile computing capabilities:

-45nm Intel core 2 duo processor.
-Mobile Intel 45 express chipset.
-Intel WiFi Link 5000 series.
-Intel 82567 gigabit network connection.

The key features of the Intel Core 2 Duo processor are:
