SYDNEY: TomTom has today announced that the Map Share feature, which allows users to update maps and share information automatically, is now available in Australia.
This technology allows users to change and update the maps on their navigation units and to receive other people’s improvements. TomTom claim that roads change by up to 15% every year which, over time, makes the installed maps archaic. TomTom Map Share seeks to overcome these changes by constantly renewing the map data.
“[This] is an important component of a new era of navigation. Map Share ensures that Australian GPS users have the most up to date, accurate and reliable maps,” said TomTom (Australian and New Zealand) managing director, Andrew Cooper.
The new technology is available to existing TomTom GPS users via a download from their website. This software upgrade will be free for users of TomTom ONE (3rd edition), TomTom GO 720, TomTom ONE XL and TomTom RIDER (version 7.xx). Users of earlier TomTom models can access the Map Share feature through the purchase of new software.
