SYDNEY: Dyson have announced their new Airblade hand dryer has taken out a Product of the Year award at this year’s DesignEX indoor fittings and appliances show.

The award, given to the Airblade for the bathroom category, follows a number of design awards for other Dyson products, with the original DC01 vacuum cleaner even sitting in the exhibition’s ‘design tunnel’, which celebrates key design icons that went on sale in the 20 years since the very first show.

The Airblade wipes hands clean with a high-speed sheet of air in just 10 seconds. It is also up to 75 per cent more energy efficient than most current hand dryer designs, using unheated air to do its job. It also uses a HEPA filter to remove bacteria from any dirty air it blows out.

The awards judge products on overall design excellence, how they encompass the complete design philosophy of the manufacturer, innovation, ergonomics, functionality, durability, safety and environmental sensitivity.

“All of these criteria are at the heart of the Dyson design process,’ said Dyson South East Asia, managing director, Ross Cameron. “It’s the complete design philosophy that we pass onto our own design team, and that we encourage through the education initiatives we run globally.”
