SYDNEY: Panasonic has released the first 32GB SDHC Memory Card with Class 6 speed that allows up to 12 hours of High Definition video recording and maximum transfer rates of up to 20MB/s — it will be available in May; pricing is yet to be announced.
SDHC stands for Secure Digital High Capacity. Secure Digital is the memory card storage technology jointly developed by Panasonic, SanDisk and Toshiba for use in portable devices, including digital cameras and camcorders.
Class 6 is a rating given by the SD Card Association that defines the data transfer standards required for rating SD and SDHC memory cards and devices using them. Currently, Class 6 is the highest rating available for flash memory cards.
Panasonic’s new 32 GB Memory Card (RP-SDV32GG1K) also has Panasonic’s new user-friendly labeling feature, which allows users to write titles or comments directly onto labels on the front and back of the card. Panasonic advised that it will also introduce this new labeling feature in its other SD Memory Card models.
This new card means that Panasonic now has six memory cards in its Pro High Speed with Class 6 speed specification — other sizes are: 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB.
The 12 hours of claimed High Definition recording time is when the card is used with Panasonic’s newly released High Definition SD Card camcorder, the HDC-SD9.
According to Panasonic’s testing, in the HDC-SD9, the 32GB card can record approximately 12 hours of 1440 x 1080i High Definition video in HE mode, and approximately four hours of 1920 x 1080p Full High Definition video in HA mode.
