SYDNEY: Sharp Australia has announced it will launch its new 65-inch 100 hertz LCD television later this year.

According to deputy managing director Denis Kerr, the new model will arrive in the second half of the year, “around about Olympics time”.

“We’re currently in budget negotiations for it, and we expect to see it a little later this year,” he said.

The new television will be sold under the RX1 model name and debuted at the CES earlier this month, but further technical details were not available at time of publication. Kerr did confirm it was not the T-Series THX-certified model, however.

“We’re quite excited about it, because the product was actually at CES, and it’s quite an exciting, good looking product and the screen quality is exceptional and it’s right at the forefront of technology.

“We think that we will have a value-added product that’s going to be very attractive to the retail market in Australia.”
