SYDNEY: Myer has announced a retail agreement with Vodafone that will see the Vodafone store-within-store concept introduced to its stores, which will now stock mobile phone handsets and accessories for the first-time.

The first of 60 new ‘Vodafone in Myer’ stores will open in Chermside, Queensland today, with a further 19 similar stores scheduled to open before Christmas and the remaining 40 Vodafone outlets due to commence operations in Myer locations around Australia within two years.

“There is definitely something very exciting and sophisticated in the way Vodafone sells mobile,” said Myer CEO, Bernie Brookes.

“This is a new direction for Myer that allows us to meet our customers’ burgeoning interest in mobile products, services and content that complements fashion tastes and lifestyle needs,” he said.

Following the inaugural Chermside store launch, the companies will open a Vodafone retail outlet within Myer’s flagship store at Lonsdale Street, Melbourne on 19 September.

“Signing this exclusive store in store retail agreement with Myer is a major coup for Vodafone,” said Vodafone Australia CEO, Russell Hewitt.

“It opens up a premier, new retail environment that gives us prime exposure to Myer customers, who typically seek out stylish, high-quality products.”

Vodafone is positioning the Myer deal as part of its aggressive retail expansion strategy that will see Vodafone virtually double its retail presence in Australia within two years.
