Wagga Wagga, NSW: Nick Ligakis, the proprietor of Wagga Betta Electrical in NSW, today revealed to Current.com.au the reasons why he will cease trading as Betta Electrical retailer effective 30 June 2007.

“We are building a new complex on a block of land in a new homemaker centre here in Wagga Wagga and we wanted to have an electrical store on that block to go with the Mitre 10 store we are planning for that site,” Ligakis told Current.com.au today.

“However the site will not be ready for about 12 months and the lease on the existing Betta Electrical store is up and we didn’t want to sign a new two year lease when we need to relocate to the new site anyway.

“Also the changes with the Betta Electrical group over the past 12 months meant that we had to negotiate accounts with all the suppliers individually and that made it difficult to keep operating. It was also difficult to compete with the advertising of Harvey Norman.”

Ligakis said that wants to include an electrical outlet on his new homemaker site and would be in discussions with Betta Electrical again, and may consider other buying groups, but will not be ready to make that decision until his new site has been developed.
