MELBOURNE: Samsung has signed Channel 10’s celebrity chef Iain “Huey” Hewitson as its endorsee for the brand’s debut range of cookware appliances, which were launched to retailers at a trade event in Melbourne last night.

Samsung’s new cooktops and built-in ovens will feature on the set of Hewitson’s television show Huey’s Cooking Adventures alongside the brand’s other home appliances such as microwaves and fridges, which have been part of the show’s set for the past season.

The show is aired at 3:30pm Monday to Friday on Channel 10.

Hewitson was the only actual celebrity to appear at last night’s Samsung Celebrity Challenge retail night after comedian David Callum masqueraded faux appearances by Richie Benaud, Sean Connery and John Howard as part of a mock game show to explore the features of Samsung’s new home appliances.

In his final masquerade celebrity appearance as Huey, Callum was joined by the real Hewitson on stage, who briefly spoke the praises of Samsung’s appliances before exiting.

The Celebrity Challenge game show was hosted by Tanya Bulmer, who played the inquisitive shopper while Samsung’s product managers including whitegoods specialist, Mike Lilly, and floorcare and washing machines specialist, Paul Lipscomb, spruiked the features and benefits of the 2007 range.

Samsung also previewed its new television commercials to the audience at last night’s event.
