CABRAMATTA: A small electrical retailer’s future is uncertain as Chen Discounts Cabramatta, in Sydney’s west, leaves BSR today after 20 years with the group but has not signed on with another buying group.

Chen Discounts Cabramatta, based on John Street in Cabramatta in Sydney’s south-west, confirmed to Current.com.au that it will cease trading as a BSR store today, following a document sent by BSR staff to suppliers last week.

However, the store won’t reveal which buying group it will now be affiliated with.

“We haven’t made a decision yet,” franchisee Philip Chen told Current.com.au today.

“We were with BSL and BSR for a very, very long time – maybe 20 years,” he said.

A number of BSR shopfronts have defected to other buying groups since BSL went in to receivership last year, with approximately 19 of these joining Narta member, Bi-Rite Electrical’s banner, which is headed up by Abdul Sacur.

Sacur announced late last year that he planned to turn his 18-year-old business into a $1 billion money-maker.

“The common factor here is that I am providing the service that these retailers want. I am providing them with additional suppliers that they are not enjoying at the moment,” Sacur told Current.com.au in February.
