SYDNEY: Housewares International (HWI) Electrical has appointed South African appliance specialist, David Card to the newly-created role of product director, reporting to general manager – marketing, Cameron Searle.

Searle told Current.com.au, the appointment of Card reflects a new marketing structure at HWI Electrical – the parent company of Breville and Kambrook and the distributor of Philips small appliances in Australia.

Card has spent the last seven years working for Amalgamated Appliances – the leading small appliance supplier in South Africa as marketing manager responsible for product sourcing and market development. Amalgamated Appliances distributes 13 brands including Russell Hobbs, Hoover, George Foreman and Remington.

Prior to joining Amalgamated Appliances, Card was a buyer for Clicks – one of South Africa’s largest retailers – and was responsible for personal care and kitchen products.

“David has a total of 15 years experience in product sourcing and development, including building strong relationships with a broad range of Chinese suppliers and developing a deep understanding of the industry and the major players,” Searle said.

Card will relocate to Australia for the role and will commence working for HWI Electrical on Monday 12 March.
