Sony’s website gets most hits in 2006

SYDNEY: Sony’s website received an award for the most visited consumer electronics website in 2006, which was the result of research from Hitwise, which records online usage and search behaviours of close to 2.5 million Australian internet users.

The website, www.sony.com.au, received a Hitwise Online Performance Award last week for achieving the number one ranking in the category for Computers & Internet – Electronics. The awards program recognises excellence in online performance through public popularity, according to Sony.

“Customers place an increasing amount of importance on gathering information online,” said Sony Australia group manager of corporate marketing communications, Tim Rich.

“We have worked hard to create a site that is simple to navigate and provides quick access to accurate product details. We have also created a destination that is more than just product specs.

“Sony.com.au educates on key technologies and expands on some of the exciting in-store promotions we have on offer. This Hitwise award recognises the strengths of our site, and demonstrates the significance of an online source for consumers.”
