SYDNEY: Woolworths Limited – the parent company of Dick Smith Electronics – is searching for a supplier to take on the appliance retailer’s extended warranty business for electrical consumer products.

An advertisement published in the Australian Financial Review stated: “Woolworths seeks expressions of interest from suppliers able to satisfy our non re-sale requirements for the provision of extended warranty insurance for Woolworths customers on electrical consumer products. This will involve suppliers interested in providing the insurance and/or the administration of the claims process."

Dick Smith Electronics is one of many appliance retailers who offer consumers the opportunity to purchase an extended warranty on electrical products.

Current.com.au was unable to gain confirmation that the extended warranty business is expanding, but believes turnover has grown in the past year to necessitate outsourcing the business.

A spokesperson for Dick Smith Electronics general manager, Alvin Ng, said the company does “not comment on commercial issues affecting [the] business.”
