KIAMA: Former BSL chairman and newly-appointed franchise manager for the new BSR retail group, Patrick Tynan, has announced that he will be closing his 200 square metre electrical store in Kiama at the end of this month.

“The lease is up and the store is too small to be a viable retailer in the town,” Tynan told Current.com.au.

“I have spent the last two years talking to council and there are no bulky goods sites allocated in Kiama – only 100-150 square metre sites. The landlord has told me he can get more money from a tourist store on the site.

“It is just one of those things – if the location comes up, we’ll go back. These days, you really need something around 700 to 800 square metres in a country town and the biggest available is 200 square metres.”

Tynan opened the Kiama store in April 1980 after opening his first store in Nowra in August 1979. Tynan will continue to operate the 700 square metre Nowra store in his new role as franchise consultant for the newly-formed BSR group which operates the Betta Electrical and Chandlers franchises.
