SYDNEY: The New South Wales Government today launched a free information pack on legislative amendments for retail tenants, which will be issued in an attempt to help cut red tape and offer greater retail certainty.

The NSW government will distribute 30,000 copies of the Protect Your Lease handbook, which is designed as a ‘one-stop folder’ for retail tenants.

The pack will include advice regarding retail tenants’ rights under the Retail Leases Act, a copy of the NSW Retail Tenant’s Guide, information on the new retail lease bond scheme and information regarding Retail Tenancy Unit services.

“The Iemma Government’s new direction for retail leases strengthens and improves the legal framework for both tenants and landlords,” NSW minister for small business, David Campbell said today.

“This information pack is the next step in our new direction to help retail tenants maintain their leases and better relationships with their landlords,” he said.

According to press release issued today, more than 32 per cent of Australia’s retail market in based in New South Wales, which turns leads to employment of more than 490,000 people and an injection $12.9 billion to the states economy.
