SYDNEY: Sony Australia today released the pricing for its premium large-screen Bravia X series LCD TVs, which will enable the brand to go head to head with high resolution 42-inch and 50-inch plasmas.

Starting at RRP $5,499 for the 40-inch model, the new top of the line X series range includes three models all featuring 1920x1080p resolution and integrated high definition tuners.

The 46-inch X series model is priced at RRP $6,999, while the 52-inch model is priced at RRP $9,999. All models include two HDMI inputs, 1300:1 contrast ratio SPVA panels and an extended colour range.

“This new range of LCD televisions is the embodiment of Sony’s high definition commitment,” said Sony Australia product manager – display, Graham Keogh.

“High definition is a key focus for Sony Australia and indeed the entire Sony group of companies. Full-on Sony high definition 1080 is a must have for consumers who are serious about entertainment. Seeing is believing, and these displays bring to life HD content such as the latest cinematography, blockbuster movies and PlayStation 3 games.”

The high-end X series was previewed at the Sony Experience More trade event held in Sydney last month, and will take its place above the V series as the new hero in the Bravia family. The range will be available in Ocotber.

Sony has also launched its second-generation standard S series and mid-range V series Bravia models. The black and silver V series now includes a 46-inch model in the lineup (RRP $5,999), as well as a 32-inch (RRP $3,499) and 40-inch (RRP $4,499). All V series models will be launched next month, and feature HDMI input, high definition tuner and PC input.

The S series lineup includes a 26-inch (RRP $1,999), 32-inch (RRP $2,499) and 40-inch (RRP $3,499), all available this month.
