MELBOURNE: Melbourne’s Crown entertainment complex will install 548 Panasonic high definition commercial plasma TVs throughout its Crown Casino and Crown Towers hotel, including a 65-inch high definition panel in the Food Hall of the complex.

Many of the screens will be installed in Crown Towers’ 482 luxury hotel rooms, with a total of 22 42-inch and two premium 50-inch models per floor all connected to the hotel’s movie link service for in-room movies.

“Crown is Melbourne’s premier entertainment venue and it was extremely important that we offer a premium service to our visitors,” sais Crown project manager, Talis Stern.

“The Panasonic screens were chosen due to the outstanding high definition picture quality they provide.”

Other 42-inch and 50-inch models will be used as digital signage on the casino’s gaming floor, displaying videos and major sporting events. The plasma models feature selectable circuit boards for a variety of inputs including HDMI, which will also enable Crown to implement Internet Protocol television in the future.

Crown said that with many of the screens will be operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in high traffic areas, and it was imperative that the company purchased reliable and robust products.

Panasonic says its commercial plasma screens are becoming increasingly popular as digital signage solutions.

“As well as the high visual impact of the size and quality of the screens, Panasonic plasmas come equipped with a range of features that enable a perfect fit-for-purpose solution,” said Panasonic group manager – business development, Craig Hutchison.

Opened in May 1997, the Crown complex is owned by Publishing and Broadcasting Limited, and has an average of 15 million visits per year. The complex, combining gaming, hotel and convention facilities, covers 510,000 square metres or the equivalent of two city blocks along a 500-metre river frontage in Melbourne’s Southbank.
