SYDNEY: Hitachi has announced it will release its sixth generation DVD camcorder technology to the market within the next few months as it seeks to fight companies switching to hard disk drive technology.
Hitachi introduced its first DVD camcorder in 2000 and the company claims its latest version of the DVD-RAM compatible product will offer new ground-breaking technology and easy to use features. Exact launch details, pricing and product features have not been disclosed at this stage.
"We invented the DVD camcorder and you can expect to see a lot more from Hitachi with this next generation," said Hitachi Australia camcorder specialist, Evan Manolis.
“This sixth generation DVDCAM range from Hitachi will offer a high-quality camcorder choice for every budget and for every type of user, from the beginner to the budding filmmaker,” Manolis said.
Hitachi will face increasing pressure from video camera market leader, Sony, who is expected to launch a hard disc drive camcorder later this year.
Earlier this month, Toshiba announced it will release a 10 gigabyte hard disc drive camcorder for around RRP $1,499.
Toshiba’s product will compete with category incumbent JVC who has already released 30 gigabyte Everio hard disc camcorders
“There are very few brands currently in the market so there is an opportunity for us there. We are just awaiting approval and final confirmation of its viability, but it should be out soon,” said Toshiba ISD product marketing manager, Matt Codrington.
