Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) was called to a fire in a top-loader Samsung washing machine at a house in Littimer Way, Ambarvale on Monday. The fire was extinguished prior to FRNSW’s arrival and was contained to the machine’s control panel and hose, according to Fire Investigation and Research Unit manager Superintendent Jeremy Fewtrell.
“The home’s occupants had self-evacuated and no one was injured. The machine model is subject to the Samsung product recall and does not appear to have been re-worked,” Fewtrell told Appliance Retailer.
In a statement supplied by Samsung Electronics Australia, the company said, “We are concerned to hear about an incident in Ambervale, NSW. At this time, we believe that the washing machine had not been previously reworked and we are working with authorities to investigate the matter and offer our support to the customer.”
“Samsung takes the safety of its customers extremely seriously. We initiated a recall on six models of top loader washing machines in April 2013 and while we have resolved 82 per cent of impacted models we are committed to finding every possible unit. We continue to work closely with the NSW Department of Fair Trading and we urge customers to check the model details of their Samsung washing machine to determine if their model is affected by the recall,” the statement continued.

- SW80SPWIP/XSA
- WA85GWGIP/XSA
- WA85GWWIP/XSA
