Headphone brand settles on $177m deal.

Skullcandy, the leading headphones brand in the US, is being acquired by CE accessory manufacturer, Incipio in a US$177 million cash deal. Skullcandy headphones and ear buds, sold here from JB Hi-Fi, is marketed with a strong outdoor action focus. The deal with the Utah-based company joins the growing list of CE accessory mergers, the most recent being the Apple purchase of Beats, Homemedics taking SOL Republic and Logitech purchasing Jaybird.

Skullcandy CEO, Hoby Darling, said in a statement the deal was in the best interest of the company and its shareholders adding that the two companies “share a common culture, vision and commitment to driving innovation”.

Incipio owns the Astro Gaming and Braven Bluetooth speaker and gaming headsets but the Skullcandy acquisition marks the group’s first entry into the lifestyle headphones category.  Incipio also has licensing agreements with Kate Spade and House of Harlow, among others.  Brands in its portfolio also include ClamCase and Incase iPhone accessories and Tavik backpacks.
