Amusing stuff from the Canberra Times this week: the august journal of our nation’s capital reports that at least seven Fisher & Paykel refrigerators have washed ashore at Shelly Beach, on the New South Wales Central Coast.

Fairfax journo Dan Proudman reports that a container was jettisoned from a ship on the high seas with the refrigerators at some point breaking free and washing up on the beach.

Wyong Shire Council chipped in that the fridges should be treated with the same seaside caution as bluebottles and stingers:

“A container of whitegoods has washed up on Shelly Beach,” the council said in a statement. “Wyong Shire Council advises the contents of the container may present a danger to the public. Council has fenced off the area where possible and asks that the community stay away.

“Council’s beach cleaner is onsite to move any debris washing onto the beach away from the shoreline.

“Council staff are in the process of liaising with relevant authorities so that the wreckage can be safely removed.

“In the meantime, please refrain from attending the area.”
