The annual Tropfest film festival celebrated its 20th birthday on Sunday night, with a series of stellar short films on show, only outshone by the epic thunderstorms that ended the night.

The festival’s official camera sponsor, Nikon, also played a starring role on the night, awarding the director of the top film with a camera and lens prize pack. Winning director Alethea Jones picked up a Nikon D800 camera – the official camera of Tropfest – as well as a lens set up to the value of $6,000.

Jones took out first prize for her seven-minute film ‘Lemonade Stand’ – a short that follows the exploits of a granddad and grandson who run a small lemonade stand in suburban Australia.
