BERNE, SWITZERLAND: While in decline here, Americans seem to love DECT cordless phones, with sales topping 50 per cent in value for May 2008, according to the NPD Group.
According to a release from the DECT Forum, which promotes the standard on behalf of companies that manufacture the technology, DECT phones took 53 per cent of all phones sold by value in the US last month.
The results contrast sharply with local figures, with DECT phones down 18 per cent in units and 21 per cent in value for the 12 months to December 2007, according to GfK.
"The rapid US marketplace embrace of DECT 6.0 is a great success story for the entire home communication industry", said DECT Forum US Working Group chairman, Mike Rude.
The DECT Forum claimed one major advantage DECT has over rival DSS was its non-interference with Wi-Fi signals and potential to support IP broadband connectivity.
