SYDNEY, NSW: Miele came out on top over all for the front loader washing machine category, having secured itself top marks for performance, noise, design and warranty but falling slightly short for price, ease of use and water efficiency. Bosch came a close second to Miele by scoring top marks for price, water efficiency and ease of use in the Canstar Blue consumer satisfaction survey, the results of which were released today.

The head of research for Canstar Blue, Steve Mickenbecker, noted that 50 per cent of the Australians surveyed named water efficiency as the most important factor when choosing a washing machine. “Our first Canstar Blue washing machine survey showed how eco-friendly most Australian consumers are when it comes to the purchase of this key household item,” Mickenbecker said in a statement.

“Gen Y respondents surveyed were most likely to choose ‘green’ when it came their washing machines (59 per cent), when compared to Generation X (56 per cent) and Baby Boomers (50 per cent).” Whether this translates into actual sales is another matter, as reported in Current.com.au last week.

Fisher & Paykel scored highest in the top loader category with a stellar performance across all the determining factors, followed closely by LG and Samsung.

Fisher & Paykel also took the cake for the dryer category scoring well in all the criteria except for price, succeeded by Simpson. Bosch and Electrolux also performed strongly in the consumer satisfaction survey.
