Tomorrow marks the beginning of Canon’s 2008 Photo5 competition. The competition, which is open to both amateurs and professionals, is the photography world’s version of the popular Tropfest short film competition.
Registration for Photo5 opens tomorrow, Friday 5 September, and will run through to 30 September. Would-be participants are advised to register early, however, as Canon will only accept the first 10,000 applications. Canon reports that in 2007, they received 2,500 entries, though are expecting more in 2008 due to greater public awareness.
Once registers, entrants will receive a box containing five ordinary objects. Prizes will be awarded based on the imagination used by photographers in transforming these items into “inspiring images”.
The prize pool for this competition is over $50,000. From tomorrow, more information will be available at Canon’s website.
